DEFINITION

  • Concretions are masses of mineral matter embedded within rock layers, including limestone, sandstone, and shale. They often take shape when minerals precipitating (settling) out of water collect around a nucleus, such as a pebble, leaf, shell, bone, or fossil. (en)
