  • The ratio of the amount of water used for a specific purpose to the amount of water withdrawn or diverted from its source to serve that use. In irrigation, water-use efficiency presents the ratio between estimated irrigation water requirements (through evapotranspiration) and actual water withdrawal. It is dimensionless and can be applied at any scale (plant, field, irrigation schemes, basin, country).
