DEFINITION

  • Form of suspended culture in which the ongrowing structures (ropes, etc.) are suspended from a raft. Utilizes moored, floating rafts mostly for coastal shellfish culture; holes are punched in old shells and the shells are placed on strings, which are attached to the raft structure; after settling of spat on the shells, the rafts may be anchored in good growing areas.
